How to decide on a good bilingual name
1. Say it out loud in both languages
You have to be okay with how the boy name sounds in both languages. Period.
There are so many names I’ve liked in the past that sounded so cute in English, and frankly speaking, I just did not like in Spanish. And vice versa!
Be sure to say the names out loud in both languages and be 100% POSITIVE you like how the name sounds in both.
2. Spelling
Spelling can be a bit tricky. Some Spanish boy names may be spelled one way in Spanish, but the spelling may be different in English.
For instance, Ezequiel is spelled out here in Spanish, but the English spelling is Ezekiel.
It’ll come down to your personal preference and how you will want your baby boy’s name to be spelled out. Just remember to consider that the name may be spelled differently in the other language.
3. Nicknames
Do you want your baby boy to have a nickname derived from their first name?
If so, then you’ll want to pick a bilingual boy name that will allow for you to have a cute nickname waiting for your baby boy.
For example, Javi is SUCH a cute nickname for Javier. Benji is also an adorable nickname for Benjamín.
4. Name meaning
If you’re torn between different boy names, then perhaps look at the meaning of the name.
The name meaning may be a deciding factor for you if you fall in love with what the name means.
5. Does the name have special significance?
Finally, if there’s a bilingual boy name that has a special significance to you, then by all means go with that name.
If you want to honor someone special and important to you, then maybe naming your son after him may be the way to go.
